CT/PET Scan

Had a PET/CT scan done today as part of my quarterly reviews. I'll meet with Dr. Goy next Friday to review the results.

I feel great, and look forward to good news!

All else is well, we've just returned from a vacation to California, where we visited San Francisco, Monterey, and Yosemite. All great stuff! We saw our friends Claus and Claudia (and Francesca, and Christopher, and Theresa), who opened their home to us most graciously, and we had a wonderful stay!

I need to get back on the bike - as the vaca did not help with weight loss (up 2 lbs, thanks to lots of hiking for keeping that down to a manageable 2!).

Blood counts are looking good. HGB is still rising - hit 14 this week! (16 was the 'old' - pre chemo high.)

Italy's Tamburi seeks investments to follow Moncler Reuters  –  Wed, Aug 14, 2013 4:32 PM EDT

moncler MILAN (Reuters) - Italy's Tamburi Investment Partners (TIP) (MIL:TIP) is looking for further purchases after leading a consortium to buy into luxury ski wear maker Moncler, chief executive Giovanni Tamburi said on Wednesday.

moncler womens jackets TIP, which Tamburi said has investments worth about 1 billion euros ($1.3 billion), acquired an indirect stake in Moncler this month when its majority-owned vehicle Clubsette bought 14 percent of Moncler President Remo Ruffini's holding company.

moncler kieds The independent investment bank, which also holds stakes in hearing aid maker Amplifon (MIL:AMP) and cable maker Prysmian (MIL:PRY), is mulling deals in the technology, fashion and retail sectors in Europe, at a pace of between one and three a year.

moncler outlet store locations "We have absolutely not finished," Tamburi told Reuters. "We still have liquidity, we still have investors who want to join us, so we're still looking at potential deals - and there are lots of opportunities in Europe."

moncler outlet TIP booked a capital gain worth about 33 million euros in July from the sale of its stake in holding companies for French department store chain Printemps, but the cash will not make it any less choosy about its investments, Tamburi said.

moncler man "We won't let having lots of money make us rush to invest."

The 103 million euro investment in holding company Ruffini Partecipazioni, which owns 32 percent of Moncler, is primarily a bet on the ski wear brand, Tamburi said.

"Ruffini Partecipazioni effectively means 32 percent of Moncler," Tamburi said, adding that its other investments, in secondary brands in the Moncler group such as Henry Cotton's and Marina Yachting, are valued far below the flagship label.

The goosedown jacket label is set to list - without the secondary brands - on the Milan bourse in the last quarter of this year. Sources have told Reuters that Ruffini plans to keep his 32 percent stake.

Sources close to the matter have said the IPO values Moncler at about 2 billion euros, but Tamburi declined to put a value on his stake.

Tamburi said the decision to invest in Ruffini was taken regardless of whether Moncler would list or not.

"Our participation in Ruffini Partecipazioni completely disregards the possible effects of a listing - whether it takes place sooner or later."

Luxury Brands Face Hazards When Testing Lower Costs

Apple on Tuesday will introduce two iPhones, including a new lower-cost model targeted at overseas countries where expensive smartphones are out of reach for many consumers. cheap tiffany & co jewelry
The addition of a cheaper iPhone could help Apple sell tens of millions more phones. But it could also diminish its reputation as a premium brand. tiffany jewelry
Many luxury companies have faced this challenge before, with wildly different results. Luxury carmakers have introduced less expensive models, but many efforts have tripped up. Tiffany & Company found so much success with its cheaper “Return to Tiffany” jewelry, that it attracted too many teenagers. And Target has paired up with a variety of high-end fashion designers, often with considerable success.
For Apple, the devil will be in the details: just how much lower the price of the cheaper iPhone is, and just how much cheaper it looks and feels. If the iPhone is deemed cheap, it could get into the hands of so many people worldwide that it loses power as a status symbol and turns Apple into a maker of commodity products like Dell, Hewlett-Packard or Asus.
“It’s hard. It’s an art and a science,” said Milton Pedraza, chief executive of the Luxury Institute, a research firm. “It’s hard to know you’ve gone over the line until you do it.”
Makers of luxury cars have long struggled with how to increase their market share with less expensive models, while still retaining the brand’s cachet and exclusivity.
The marriage of Daimler-Benz and Chrysler failed partly because German engineers developing Mercedes sedans were opposed to sharing parts with mainstream Chrysler models made in the United States. While that preserved the integrity of the Mercedes brand, the company missed a golden opportunity to cut overall costs. Still, Mercedes is taking another stab at lower-cost models, introducing the CLA sedan later this year.
Toyota’s Lexus brand stumbled some when it introduced lower-priced IS sedans that lacked the high-end features and overall glitz of its signature models. Lexus has since addressed the issue by making its entry-level cars more powerful and sporty.
The fashion industry has also experimented with going more mainstream. Ralph Lauren offers lower-priced lines while also having a high-end product. But a partnership with Neiman Marcus and Target was a major failure.
Even the travel industry has tried extending luxury brands, like Starwood’s Aloft line of hotels, which is promoted as “a vision of W Hotels,” a top Starwood brand, and “style at a steal.”
Of course, many retailers try to drive up sales by lowering prices, and that effort has become only more prominent in the Internet era, when consumers have technology tools to browse an entire industry and compare prices in nanoseconds.
“This cheaper iPhone is just one part of a whole trend that is going on that is epically changing the face of this industry,” said Robin Lewis, chief executive of The Robin Report, a retail strategy newsletter. “It’s devaluing the definition of the word ‘value.’ And it’s going to affect every premium brand.”
Still, many analysts believe that if Apple can get consumers — particularly those in China and India — to buy a cheaper version of the phone, those people would be more likely to buy Apple’s premium products in the future.
“It’s going to be the TV, it’ll be the wrist watch, it’ll be the integration in your BMW — all these things later down the road that still carries the premium brand,” said Laurence Isaac Balter, chief market strategist at Oracle Investment Research, which has clients that own Apple shares.
Apple has crossed over into pushing nonpremium products before, and failed. In the 1990s, after Steven P. Jobs had been ousted from the company, Apple started a program offering its software to makers of generic personal computers, and some of those manufacturers were able to build computers faster and cheaper than Apple could. The company, having lost its value to consumers as a premium brand offering an exclusive product, almost went bankrupt.

Smash 'n grab: Big looting during Kenya mall siege

watches NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — Jewelry cases smashed and looted. Mobile phones ripped from displays. Cash registers emptied. Alcohol stocks plundered.

Replica Rolex Watches For the second straight Kenyan tragedy, poorly paid security forces that moved in control the chaos are being accused of robbing the premises. First the troops were accused of looting during a huge fire in August at Nairobi's international airport.

Fake Rolex Watches Now shop owners at Westgate Mall are returning to their stores following a devastating terrorist attack, in which at least 67 were killed, to find items ransacked and valuables stolen.

Cheap Rolex Watches One witness told The Associated Press that he even saw a Kenyan soldier take cigarettes out of a dead man's pocket.

Cheap watches Shop owners and managers spent Monday carting merchandise and other valuables out of their shops and restaurants to prevent anything more from being taken.

Fake Rolex Watches No one can say for sure, but Kenya's security forces are strongly suspected.

Soon after the attack began on Sept. 21, Kenyan officials put a security cordon around the mall, allowing only security forces and a few government personnel to pass through.

Alcohol stocks from the restaurants have been depleted. One business owner at the mall said money and mobile phones were taken from bags and purses left behind in the mayhem. The owner insisted on anonymity to avoid retribution from Kenya's government.

Employees of a book shop on the mall's second floor returned to the corner shop to find cash registers yanked open and the cash gone. The store's laptops were also stolen. All the shop's books remained in place, said owner Paku Tsavani.

Perhaps reluctant to blame Kenyan security forces, Tsavani said he doesn't know who took his goods.

"Obviously the terrorists wouldn't steal those things, so we just don't know," Tsavani said.

Sandeep Vidyarthi went into the mall on Sunday to help a relative retrieve equipment from his dental practice. Inside he said he passed shop after shop that had been looted, including the Rado shop that sells high-end Swiss watches.

As he was exiting the mall, Vidyarthi passed a jewelry shop near the front entrance. The owner, Vidyarthi said, was presenting security officials with a long list of missing precious stones and high-end necklaces now gone.

"The jeweler had written down this very long list," he said.

It is ironic, the management team of one Westgate business told AP, that store owners now must make reports of stolen goods and present them to security forces, when most here suspect the security forces of having done the thieving.

Interior Minister Joseph Ole Lenku confirmed the reports of theft in a news conference Sunday. The majority of the responders to the terrorist attack came from Kenya's military. A military spokesman didn't answer repeated calls for comment.

View gallery ." This photo taken Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013 and made available Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, shows the scene …

"Those responsible for looting will be prosecuted," Lenku said.

The mall attack also saw good Samaritans. Paresh Shah, a volunteer who helped evacuate the injured and the dead during the first day of the attack, said he carried out the body of Aleem Jamal.

Shah frowned at the memory and said he saw a Kenyan soldier take Jamal's cigarettes while in the ambulance.

"I could never do that, take a dead man's cigarettes," Shah said.

Jamal's family retrieved the body at the morgue, where his wife, Taz Jamal, said her husband's wallet was missing.

A team of terrorists entered Westgate Mall shortly after noon on a busy Saturday, firing guns and throwing grenades. The attackers — the Somali extremist group al-Shabab claimed responsibility — held off Kenya's military and controlled at least parts of the mall for four days. The mall now has a gaping three-story hole in it from the siege.

More than three dozen people remain unaccounted for almost a week after the end of the four-day attack that killed at least 61 civilians and six security forces, the head of the Kenyan Red Cross said Monday. The government contends there are no remaining missing people.

"The only way to verify this is when the government declares the Westgate Mall 100 percent cleared, then we can resolve it," Red Cross head Abbas Gullet said.

A morgue worker told AP on Monday that six body parts have been found in the rubble. The worker, who insisted on anonymity because he was not authorized to speak about information not yet released, said it wasn't clear if the parts came from one or multiple bodies.

Five terrorists are believed to be under the building's rubble but no dead hostages, said Interior Minister Lenku on Sunday. Government officials have said 10 to 15 terrorists attacked the mall. Lenku said some attackers might have escaped.

"We do not rule out the possibility that when we were evacuating people in the first stages of the operation it is possible some could have slipped out," he said.

FBI agents, along with investigators from Britain, Canada and Germany, are participating in the investigation into the attack and are aiding Kenyan forensic experts. Results are not expected until later this week at the earliest.

Kenyan authorities have detained a total of 12 people in connection with the attack under the country's anti-terrorism laws, including one on Sunday. Three have been set free, including a British man who was reportedly arrested last week as he tried to board a flight from Nairobi to Turkey with a bruised face and while acting suspiciously, the British Foreign Office confirmed Monday.

Ndung'u Githinji, chairman of parliament's foreign relations committee, said officials will "rethink" Kenya's hospitality in supporting refugee camps, a reference to Dadaab, a refugee camp near Somalia filled with more than 400,000 Somalis. Security officials say some elements in the camp support and facilitate terror attacks.

Ireland 15-32 Australia

Ireland captain Paul O'Connell tried to rouse his side with a bruising carry but they have been struggling - can they take advantage now the Wallabies are down to 14 men?

72 min:
RED CARD - Kuridrani- Ireland 15-32 Australia

The crowd hiss as they watch Peter O'Mahony being up ended by Tevita Kuridrani. The back-rower reacts furiously, putting in a few choice words before telling the Australians "that was dangerous". Referee Chris Pollock asks for replays and then shows the outside-centre the red card.

70 min:
SUBSTITUTION- Ireland 15-32 Australia

Just an update of the personnel on the field. Stephen Archer and Sean Cronin have come on for Australia as Joe Schmidt rolls the dice, while Will Genia and Nic White form a new half-back partnership for the Wallabies.

Ireland 15-32 Australia

Former Ireland and Lions flanker Phillip Matthews on BBC Two: "That was always the danger for Ireland - Australia can be patient and don't have to force anything. They can wind the clock down or go as far as they want. On this occasion they have got seven points and it makes Ireland's task - to be honest - almost impossible."

67 min:
TRY - Hooper- Ireland 15-32 Australia

Australia drive forward from the line-out. Michael Hooper is the man with the ball at the back of the maul and he simply has to stay in the shadows, leaving his front-row colleagues to surge forward, until they all collapse over the line in a heap. A simple try for the flanker and Quade Cooper succeeds with a tricky conversion.

GET INVOLVED

Gareth Mottram: Ireland are really not doing themselves any favours here, and Oz are looking tidy.

64 min:
Ireland 15-25 Australia

A cheeky diagonal grubber from Quade Cooper has the Irish defence in all sorts of trouble. The Australians rumble forward and Mike Ross is penalised for knocking on. The Australians camped inside the Irish half and in control.

62 min:
Ireland 15-25 Australia

Paul O'Connell takes the line-out but, somehow, Ireland spill possession at the breakdown. A sturdy Australia scrum and the Wallabies earn a penalty after Mike Ross is caught doing all sorts of terrible things (possibly) in the hot house.

GET INVOLVED

Andy Jackson, via text: There's absolutely no requirement or mention of "downward pressure" in the laws of the game. You can actually poke the underside of the ball and score a try - so long as it is grounded. No "control" needed either. In other words, that was a second try for Cummings!

60 min:
Ireland 15-25 Australia

A stop-start few minutes, mainly because neither side can quite master the scrum. Ireland earn the put-in... Conor Murray scoops the ball out... The ball pops out of Brian O'Driscoll's hands but goes back and Ian Madigan kicks down field. Ireland regain possession... and Australia are caught offside but the Irish turn their noses up at a kick to posts and opt for touch.

Paddy: What is going on with Ireland?! Where has the Irish fight gone?

Former Ireland hooker Keith Wood on BBC Two

"These penalties are a start for Ireland - but they need to start playing outside of their own half. They keep trying to run out of their own 22, but are not getting enough field position."

56 min:
PENALTY - Madigan- Ireland 15-25 Australia

Three points for Madigan means three points for Ireland and the hosts eat in to the Australian lead.

A couple of fresh faces on show as scrum-half Conor Murray replaces Eoin Reddan for Ireland and Sitaleki Timani and Joe Tomane come on for Australia.

54 min:
Ireland 12-25 Australia

The forwards have been attempting to scrumage for the last minute or so and eventually Australia concede the penalty, giving Ian Madigan a chance for his first shot at goal.

Andy Wilson: I'm no expert. But Ireland's defending is pretty poor this evening.

Ireland 12-25 Australia

Former Ireland and Lions flanker Phillip Matthews on BBC Two: "I think Ireland have underestimated Australia. Their display has been sloppy, with far too many mistakes. Whether they have not executed Joe Schmidt's tactics or it is just down to player errors we don't know yet - but it is not good enough. It is difficult to turn around a psychological complacency in the middle of a match."

52 min:
Ireland 12-25 Australia

Fergus McFadden kicks away possession... Israel Folau collects and opts to reply in kind... A game of ping-pong ensues... A high kick here, a high kick there... Cian Healy decides he wants to make contact with a green and gold shirt. But it's a scrappy couple of minutes, with the Irish slowly inching their way towards the half-way line.

49 min:
PENALTY - Cooper- Ireland 12-25 Australia

Ireland need to wake from their second-half slumber as Quade Cooper inflicts further damage with a canny 30m penalty.

Ireland 12-22 Australia

Former Ireland and Lions flanker Phillip Matthews on BBC Two: "Ireland raced off the line but did they come off too quickly? Luke Marshall and Ian Madigan are both looking at each other - there was a lot of confusion. Perhaps Jonathan Sexton's departure contributed. The space just opened up for Quade Cooper."

45 min:
TRY - Cooper- Ireland 12-22 Australia

Firm, solid, the Aussie forwards seizing their opportunity and presenting their backline with a perfect platform. A shuffle of the hips from Quade Cooper and the outside-half dances through an absent defence, and converts his own try from in front of the posts.

Former Ireland and Lions flanker Phillip Matthews on BBC Two: "Nick Cummins won't be happy with that decision. But Tommy Bowe did not need to be on the touchline there. He left himself with far too much to do, but managed to recover. Ireland have been slow to get out of the blocks at the start of this second half."

43 min:
Ireland 12-15 Australia

A yee-hawingly good scrum from the Australians as they turn the backpeddaling Irish. Peter O'Mahony slips under the ferocity of the pressure and the tourists celebrate with a few whoops as Ireland must now defend a scrum 5m from their line.

42 min:
TRY REVIEW- Ireland 12-15 Australia

The Wallabies sniffing and snorting down the right flank before Quade Cooper spins it to the left and finds the ever-present Stephen Moore in midfield. The hooker makes inroads, and Cooper finds Nick Cummins who is galloping down the left. The winger dives over the line with Tommy Bowe underneath him. Did he get downward pressure? We just don't know. Yet.

Television match official Geoff Warren watches the move from a plethora of angles and deems Cummins had knocked on, which means Ireland have a scrum 5m from their line.

42 min:
Ireland 12-15 Australia

Ian Madigan opts for the up-and-under but Israel Folau confidently gathers, as is his way, and that might be an early lesson frot he replacement outside-half. The Aussies gaining momentum, monopolising early possession, attacking down the right flank...

41 min:
KICK-OFF- Ireland 12-15 Australia

Ian Madigan, who has replaced Jonny Sexton, gets the second half started. Racing Metro fly-half Sexton injured a hamstring on the stroke of half-time.

John McEnerney: Ireland need to tighten up or the Aussies will punish them.

Greg, London, via text: Ireland have been lacklustre recently but so have Australia. Could be a close game.

Former Australia lock Justin Harrison on BBC Two

"Ireland had the lion's share of possession but they were not effective with it. Australia were more effective when they were in possession and that's why the sin-binning of Mike Hooper was so important. Australia have lost control of the breakdown with him in the bin."

Former Ireland hooker Keith Wood on BBC Two

"In the first two or three minutes you thought this game was going to be a cracker because there is a lot of pace through the middle. I think Ireland will be unbelievably disappointed with how they have played. They have been inaccurate with the ball and they have let themselves somewhat."

Former England centre Jeremy Guscott on BBC Two Ireland 12-15 Australia

"Australia are letting Ireland back into the game and the penalty count - 9-3 in Ireland's favour - is the key statistic. This game is yet to set on fire and it is very close. It is very cagey and the teams are very wary of each other."

40 min:
HALF-TIME- Ireland 12-15 Australia

Referee Chris Pollock calls time on the first half and Jonny Sexton doesn't look too happy as he trots off.

37 min:
PENALTY - Sexton- Ireland 12-15 Australia

Ireland play their part in a breathless encounter as they dash upfield once again, attempting to outwit the Australian defence with some swift counter-attacking. Scott Fardy is caught transgressing in the tackle and up steps Jonny Sexton once again. He looks up at the target, sucks in some oxygen... and hits it true.

Legendary Australia fly-half Michael Lynagh: Wallabies on fire. Pace and quick ball.

Former Australia lock Justin Harrison on BBC Two

"That sin bin will have a huge impact on Australia - Hooper has been linking the forwards and the backs effectively and it will disrupt them."

34 min:
Ireland 9-15 Australia

Israel Folau soars and gathers the ball, setting Australia up for another attack inside the Ireland 22. A tap on the back for Cian Healy from his team-mates, though, as he brings down Rob Simmons and gets up, forcing the lock to concede a penalty.

32 min:
PENALTY - Sexton- Ireland 9-15 Australia

Hope for Ireland as Michael Hooper is shown the yellow card and Jonny Sexton reduces the arrears with another accurate kick from in front of the posts.

Paul Blackaby: Didn't even realise Darwin Deez was Australian but he's just scored a beautiful try against the Irish.

Australia's scrum, though, is coughing and wheezing like an old smoker, and from defence to attack as Ireland have the scrum 5m from the try line. The forwards present their backs with a perfect platform but the men in green can make no inroads as Australia hold firm, though illegally so apparently.

Jonny Sexton given the chance to test his radar once again and this time, from about 5m out and in front of the posts, he's successful.

27 min:
Ireland 3-15 Australia

The men in green respond positively, galloping into enemy lines but Peter O'Mahony is on the receiving end of a bone-crunching tackle and Australia are rewarded with a scrum 5m from their own tryline.

Ireland 3-15 Australia

Former Ireland and Lions flanker Phillip Matthews on BBC Two: "The Ireland defence has been too narrow and Australia are playing smartly by using the width. They find success down the same wing where Nick Cummins got the first try and it is an easy run in for Mike Hooper. Ireland have got to sort that out. They have been flat, sloppy and are giving the ball away too easy."

23 min:
TRY - Hooper, missed con Cooper- Ireland 3-15 Australia

Australia attack down the left again and once again Ireland's defence crumbles. The ball moves from Matt Toomua to Scott Fardy. The bearded flanker pushes aside Peter O'Mahony and his back-row partner Michael Hooper is on his shoulder, ready for a clear run to the line. Cooper, though, misses the conversion.

23 min:
Ireland 3-10 Australia

Brian O'Driscoll has suffered a gash to the knee which means the centre has to leave the field to receive treatment. It won't be the last we see of O'Driscoll this evening, though, I'm sure.

21 min:
MISSED PENALTY- Ireland 3-10 Australia

A hush around the Aviva although a scream can be heard in the distance as Jonny Sexton approaches the ball and whether that distracted the outside-half or not, the result is the same. No points.

20 min:
Ireland 3-10 Australia

Tommy Bowe injecting some much-needed pace into Ireland's attack and his rampage through the midfield gets the crowd on side. Referee Chris Pollock awards the penalty, Jonny Sexton attempts the tap-and-go but he's pulled back and will have to kick at goal instead.

Former Ireland and Lions flanker Phillip Matthews on BBC Two: "Ireland will be unhappy with themselves - that has got to go down as a soft try. Rob Kearney had the inside covered so there was no need for both players to give Nick Cummins the outside to that extent."

17 min:
TRY - Cummins- Ireland 3-10 Australia

Australia showing the greater attacking intent and they move the ball from right to left at breakneck speed. Hooker Stephen Moore bursts through and finds Nick Cummins, who cuts inside to finish under the posts. Quade Cooper converts to extend the lead.

15 min:
MISSED PENALTY- Ireland 3-3 Australia

Cheers around the Aviva as Quade Cooper balloons his effort, a reprieve for the Irish.

13 min:
Ireland 3-3 Australia

Ireland 0-0 Australia

Former Ireland and Lions flanker Phillip Matthews on BBC Two: "Australia are using the ball to the boot more than we would have expected. That was great awareness from Quade Cooper as he looked for Adam Ashley-Cooper. Early on Wallabies coach Ewen McKenzie is starting to play this differently that we thought."

6 min:
Ireland 0-0 Australia

A touch of craft from Quade Cooper as he notices Ireland's defence forming a high line and takes takes advantage by kicking downfield. Adam Ashley-Cooper surges down the right wing... the tryline is looming... but the ball agonisingly rolls into touch.

4 min:

Recently-appointed Ireland coach Joe Schmidt on BBC Two: "There are not too many nerves in the dressing room, even though it is a massive game for us. But the important thing for a coach is to stay calm and avoid nerves in the build up. I wouldn't say this is my first-choice team - I'm still trying to work that out. Ireland centre Brian O'Driscoll on BBC Two about his impending retirement at the end of the current season: "I'm trying to enjoy my rugby as much as I can because I definitely know it is the end in May. There is no chance of me changing my mind and carrying on until after the 2015 World Cup. Not because I haven't got the ambition - it is just that I have to listen to my body. The older you get the longer it takes to recover."

1727:
Ireland v Australia (1745 GMT)

Australia have not enjoyed a vintage year, losing six of Ewen McKenzie's first nine games in charge. Indeed, the Wallabies haven't won back-to-back Tests this year. And to boost Ireland's confidence even further, Australia's scrum success in 2013 is just 68% while Ireland have enjoyed a 86% success rate.

"Ireland are sixth in the world rankings - above Wales. I think the Welsh are the best side in the northern hemisphere and should be ranked third.

"Ireland just can't get it together for some reason. Their provincial sides have consistently done well and maybe a few too many foreign-born players have come into the Ireland team at the expense of the development of younger players."

This is not a Brian O'Driscoll love-in, just in case you were beginning to have your doubts, but it would be remiss not to mention that the Leinster man is set to win his 135th international cap this evening.

Only one man has made more international appearances. Who? Former Australia scrum-half George Gregan.

1710:
Ireland v Australia (1745 GMT)

It was O'Driscoll who scored the last-minute try which saved Ireland and earned them a 20-20 draw during Australia's last visit to Dublin in 2009. Ireland, though, have a respectable record against the Wallabies, losing just once in their last four home ties against the tourists.

Injured England prop Alex Corbisiero: "England were outstanding today! Some harsh criticisms after the game on TV, just took on the world number one team to their limit and still room to improve."

Former England hooker Brian Moore: "Enjoyable Test match that England could, not should, have won. Lost four line-outs in a row and reversed momentum. All Blacks' finishing exemplary."

"New Zealand can do nothing for 15-20 minutes and then within three phrases they score a try. They are the only side in the world who can do that.

"Credit goes to them because they are a class outfit and they are not fazed in the last 20 minutes. We had the armoury to put them away. Giving them that start isn't ideal but a huge amount of character was shown.

More from England head coach Stuart Lancaster: "We had the momentum with us certainly in the first 20 minutes of the second half.

"There are small margins at the highest level. Their kicking game has been outstanding over the last 12 months but I can't remember them putting us under too much pressure. We will look back at the game with frustration but with pride.

BBC Radio 5 live REACTION- England 22-30 New Zealand

England head coach Stuart Lancaster: "The start made the difference today and the five minutes towards the end. New Zealand got a big cushion but incredibly proud of our players to come back and lead. You saw the character in their team to score the try at the end.

"They have big game players who can create tries out of nothing. We kept our composure so I was delighted with that."

Mark Harvey: Annoyingly sending congratulations to Dan Carter, he has simply been one of the best rugby professionals that I have ever watched!

"Good evening," Richie McCaw tells the crowd as he prepares to give Dan Carter his cap. "Having him in the team certainly makes your job really easy," says McCaw of Carter while the outside-half, head bowed, looks rather bashful.

"You will go down as one of the greats of world rugby," McCaw continues.

Carter, who made his debut against Wales in 2003, becomes the fifth All Black to hit the century mark, joining McCaw, Keven Mealamu, Tony Woodcock and Mils Muliaina.

"It was a compelling watch. There were 80,000 people here who will have been proud of England's performance today. Even when the game finished, people were on their feet applauding. When the All Blacks reflect on this game, they will be saying that England have done themselves a lot of favours because they played really well."

"New Zealand know they have been in for an incredible afternoon. Frantic stuff when New Zealand went ahead but England battled back and went in front and then New Zealand regrouped. A quality effort of rugby. England need to play at this level and intensity for every match."

76 min:
England 22-30 New Zealand

Richie McCaw suffering with a bloodied nose, but the New Zealand captain seems unlikely to suffer another defeat at Twickenham. Four minutes remaining and the World Champions closing it out.

74 min:
England 22-30 New Zealand

Israel Dagg flicks the ball to Ben Smith but the New Zealand centre is forcibly ejected into touch. Referee Craig Joubert awards England a scrum inside their own 22 and a glimpse of adventure from Stuart Lancaster's men as they attack from near their own line.

72 min:
England 22-30 New Zealand

The clock, as well as the 15 men dressed in black, is England's enemy. The lively Kieran Read snatches the ball, giving the All Blacks another platform from which they can attack.

71 min:
PENALTY - Cruden- England 22-30 New Zealand

The boos and hisses ring in Aaron Cruden's ears but the All Black simply finds his zen and sends another penalty over the posts.

70 min:
England 22-27 New Zealand

England coughing up ball in the line-out and another opportunity to attack from inside enemy territory is squandered. A fine take of the high ball from Charles Piutau sets the All Blacks on their way and the hosts - Toby Flood to be honest - are penalised for not rolling away.

71 mins:
SUBSTITUTION- Wales 40-6 Argentina

The Wales fans have made plenty of noise today because, after all, there has been plenty of scores to cheer. But the biggest roar from the Millennium Stadium is reserved for Wales centurion Gethin Jenkins who is substituted to a standing ovation. Goosebumps moment for the Lions stalwart on a memorable 100th cap.

68 min:
SUBSTITUTION- England 22-27 New Zealand

A new-look half-back partnership for the hosts, in fact, as Toby Flood replaces Owen Farrell. The Saracens outside-half departs with blood seeping onto his shirt.

67 min:
SUBSTITUTION- England 22-27 New Zealand

Ben Youngs comes on for Lee Dickson and the scrum-half nearly makes a deadly mistake as he is charged down at the scrum. The ball trickles out for a England line-out, however, much to the scrum-half's relief.

Jonathan Davies , Former Wales fly-half and BBC Sport expert

"Owens will be absolutely delighted to score from a driving line-out. Wales were in total control, very patient."

Matt Dawson , Former England scrum-half and BBC Radio 5 live expert

"I just can't help but think the huddle New Zealand had when Owen Farrell took the penalty was crucial. Richie McCaw dragged his men in and whatever he said was probably along the lines of 'we are not going to lose this game, this is the World Cup final for us again'."

67 mins:
TRY - Owens, con Halfpenny- Wales 40-6 Argentina

Argentina are penalised for not releasing and that allows Dan Biggar to set up field position with an almighty hoof. And the Welsh pack are then able to power over the line. Replacement hooker Ken Owens is the man who gets the ball down - his first Wales try - and Leigh Halfpenny resumes service with the successful conversion.

62 min:
TRY - Savea, con Cruden- England 22-27 New Zealand

New Zealand nick England ball in the line-out and quickly spin wide to the right. Charles Piutau goes close... The All Blacks switch play rapidly and, oh my, what craftmanship from Ma'a Nonu as he offloads in the tackle, allowing Julian Savea to barge over the line while carrying three defenders on his back. Aaron Cruden adds the two points.

61 min:
England 22-20 New Zealand

Israel Dagg fumbles as he attempts to act as a lightning-rod for a New Zealand counter-attack. England, though, lose the line-out but New Zealand aren't their usual ruthless selves.

Ian Robertson , BBC rugby union correspondent

"The New Zealanders have absolutely been knocked backwards in this match."

Ellie Harris : COME ON ENGLAND.

Jon Amor : New Zealand have lost their cool, showing ill discipline with a few cynical fouls! Come On England, keep up the pressure!

Aaron Darlow : What a match. Pure England spirit and grit. Brilliant to watch.

63 mins:
Wales 33-6 Argentina

Wales looked rampant after that third try as the Pumas cowered back towards their own try-line. But the visitors have battled back as the match, which has been entertaining throughout, enters a rather scrappy phase. But the Welsh won't mind that with their 27-point advantage...

59 min:
PENALTY - Farrell- England 22-20 New Zealand

He's in front of the posts and it's straight through the middle from Owen Farrell. Twickenham is in full voice.

59 min:
England 19-20 New Zealand

More fresh faces as Ben Morgan comes on for Billy Vunipola at number eight. England's imperiousness in the line-out continues whatever the personnel. Quick ball sets the white shirts free again to puncture their rivals' defence. And patience is a virtue... England's forwards probe around the fringes... Richie McCaw transgresses and Owen Farrell has the chance to kick his side into the lead.

56 min:
England 19-20 New Zealand

New Zealand into their seventh phase... Aaron Smith pops it up to Julian Savea who appears in the midfield. The All Blacks faltering however, holding on in the tackle and Owen Farrell with a pressure-releasing touch finder.

England 19-20 New Zealand

No quarter asked for, none given at Twickenham as both sides hammer into each other.

All Black centre Ma'a Nonu is one of the most destructive ball carriers in the game, but England fly-half Owen Farrell is equal to the task.

54 min:
England 19-20 New Zealand

England the dominant team in the opening exchanges of this half, though New Zealand have shown flashes of their threat on the counter-attack. The All Blacks advance from deep and Courtney Lawes is penalised at the ruck, which gives the visitors the chance to kick their way into England territory.

Matt Dawson , Former England scrum-half and BBC Radio 5 live expert

"That is exactly what the crowd, viewers and players wanted. England needed to score that penalty to get back to within a point. New Zealand know they are in for a game now."

Listen to full commentary on BBC Radio 5 live

52 min:
PENALTY - Farrell- England 19-20 New Zealand

The sharp-shooting Owen Farrell inching England ever closer to their opponents as he rattles over another penalty. From 17-3 to 20-19...

50 min:
SUBSTITUTION- England 16-20 New Zealand

Dylan Hartley's day is done and he is replaced by Tom Youngs. On the pitch, Julian Savea bursts down the left wing... although the Twickenham crowd are booing at a transgression as Chris Ashton was illegally blocked while in full flight.

Jonathan Davies , Former Wales fly-half and BBC Sport expert Wales 33-6 Argentina

"That's what we want to see, Leigh Halfpenny running the channel outside 13. It was brilliant, brilliant support play from Toby Faletau. A lovely try from Wales."

56 mins:
TRY - Faletau, con Halfpenny- Wales 33-6 Argentina

That is surely game, set and match. Wales flanker Toby Faletau strolls to the line after claiming Liam Williams's inch-perfect inside pass to finish a slick Wales move down the left flank. The Welsh are purring as Leigh Halfpenny converts.

49 min:
MISSED PENALTY - Cruden- England 16-20 New Zealand

Up steps Aaron Cruden for a penalty from wide on the right. The ball strikes the upright and drops favourably for Billy Twelvetrees, who sprints ahead.

55 mins:
MISSED PENALTY - Halfpenny- Wales 26-6 Argentina

Moments after reducing the gap, Argentina shoot themselves in the foot by conceding a penalty of their own just inside their half. This is Leigh Halfpenny territory (let's face it - where isn't?) and the Wales full-back.. .misses. You read that correctly. His effort lacks punch and just drifts past the upright.

48 min:
England 16-20 New Zealand

Bodies flayed all over the pitch as this high-voltage battle takes its toll. Kieran Read again in the thick of it, pumping and snorting down the wing and he releases Julian Savea who runs out of space and kicks the ball away.

45 min:
England 16-20 New Zealand

Oof! Dylan Hartley is horizontalized by a bone-crunching tackle from Kieran Read, but England squander possession. Aaron Smith kicks out on the full, though, and England need to turn the screw from here.

Another substitution as Joe Launchbury makes way for Geoff Parling.

51 mins:
PENALTY - Sanchez- Wales 26-6 Argentina

Argentina's attack has been rather blunted by the stony Welsh defence, but they reduce the deficit to 20 points as the hosts are caught offside in their own 22. Fly-half Nicolas Sanchez has an easy-on-the-eye kicking style and calmly lobs over the three points.

44 min:
England 16-20 New Zealand

Joel Tomkins inches forward... the ball finds its way to Billy Twelvetrees, who also gains some territory. England in the ascendancy, New Zealand retreating...

GET INVOLVED #bbcrugby

Lee James Hayes : Come on All Blacks lets do this!

Kaylan Geekie : All Blacks always finish strong. England have it all to do.

Aaron McDonough : Trying to teach rugby rules to a room of Americans! Let's go Wales!!

42 min:
England 16-20 New Zealand

The New Zealand scrum backpedalling and it is only a super-duper kick from Aaron Smith which releases the pressure. Another change in the All Black front row as Owen Franks is replaced by Charlie Faumuina.

41 min:
England 16-20 New Zealand

England retaining possession and work themselves from half-way into the New Zealand half but they are penalised and New Zealand are awarded a scrum 10m or so from the left touchline.

By the way, Tony Woodcock has not appeared for this half because of an ankle injury.

40 min:
KICK-OFF- England 16-20 New Zealand

We're up up and away.

GET INVOLVED #bbcrugby

Thomas Bolton: Tomkins making no impact, really struggling to get into this game. Needs to step up or step off.

saidmadrid: Kiwis not matching the English physicality, conceding cheap penalties, hence England still in the game.

Adam: Really good half England. We just need some decent backs capable of making breaks and scoring tries!

1536:
England 16-20 New Zealand

The second half is about to begin which means we should probably brush up on a few facts. Here they come... England are, of course, the only side to have beaten New Zealand since the 2011 Rugby World Cup and that solitary 38-21 victory was their biggest winning margin against the All Blacks. On that day Owen Farrell kicked 17 points. The Saracen has 11 so far today.

44 mins:
PENALTY - Halfpenny- Wales 26-3 Argentina

However, play is brought back for an earlier infringement from the Argentines. It gives Wales another chance from the boot of Leigh Halfpenny - and guess what? He blasts over with ease. Never in doubt.

43 mins:
Wales 23-3 Argentina

In the space of 30 seconds, Wales burst from behind their own posts to the cusp of the Argentine try-line. Unsurprisingly powerhouse winger George North is right at the centre of the move, sending three defenders sprawling to the turf. Argentina scramble back in numbers before North almost gets another chance on the right. But he is stopped as Argentina survive...

Bryn Palmer , BBC Sport

"New Zealand threatened to run away with it at 17-3 up after 18 minutes. But the second quarter belonged to England, who built up a real head of steam as half-time approached and are right back in the game, with the All Blacks down to 14 men. Can the world champions, who lost Dan Carter to injury, regain their poise in the second half?"

1532:
BBC COVERAGE

Zis has been mentioned once, but why say something just the once? I've never seen myself as a Michelle Dubois kind of character. BBC Sport has added live streaming of BBC Radio 5 live and sports extra to its app which means, if you live in the UK, you can listen and read at the same time.

41 mins:
Jamie Roberts , Wales and Lions centre and BBC Sport expert KICK-OFF- Wales 23-3 Argentina

"Wales have to keep the mindset of playing positive rugby and taking the game to Argentina."

Moments later, Argentina's Nicolas Sanchez boots deep in to the Welsh half from the centre spot - and that means, unless I'm very much mistaken, that the second half has kicked off.

Wales 23-3 Argentina

Former Argentina captain Agustin Pichot on BBC One: "If Argentina carry on playing their game they could suffer against a clinical Welsh side. Argentina have to start with the fundamentals - try to create and put them under pressure."

Matt Dawson , Former England scrum-half and BBC Radio 5 live expert

"England have shown enormous character and in defence they have been great. In attack they have been dominant and taking them on in the maul.

"Billy Vunipola is unbelievably strong taking the ball forward. Playing international rugby you need to be at the top of your game but playing New Zealand you have to be superhuman, he has relished that opportunity."

Listen to full commentary on BBC Radio 5 live

1527:

Trailing 17-3 after only 16 minutes it looked as though England were going to be crushed by world champions New Zealand, but then came the fightback.

Joe Launchbury drilled over to reward a period of sustained pressure and Owen Farrell's reliable boot means it's just a four-point game at the break.

England couldn't do it again, could they?

40 min:
HALF-TIME- England 16-20 New Zealand

A big old groan thunders around Twickenham as Dylan Hartley is penalised, allowing the All Blacks to kick for touch and bring an intense half to an end.

39 min:
England 16-20 New Zealand

A minute of the half remaining and England surge into enemy territory. Billy Twelvetrees attempts to soften up the New Zealand defence... England keeping possession... moving it right then spinning it back to the left....

39 min:
PENALTY - Farrell- England 16-20 New Zealand

An unseemly New Zealand scrum, All Black bodies popping up in the front row, unable to withstand the brute force of the men in white. Another penalty in front of the posts for England and Owen Farrell kicks his team into contention.

Matt Dawson , Former England scrum-half and BBC Radio 5 live expert

"The England forward pack are immense at the moment, every single England player should get their backsides over to them and give them a boost. They have been magnificent in this first half."

Listen to full commentary on BBC Radio 5 live

Jonathan Davies , Former Wales fly-half and BBC Sport expert Wales 23-3 Argentina

"Wales have varied their attack, with more offloads and they are running in pairs. They will be very happy and will want to build on that in the second half."

HT:
HALF-TIME- Wales 23-3 Argentina

And that ends an entertaining first half in the Millennium Stadium. Wales boss Warren Gatland talked about his team being more clinical - and that is exactly what they have been. Argentina have played plenty of rugby but have been punished (badly) for their mistakes by tries from Mike Phillips and George North.

35 min:
England 13-20 New Zealand

Errors creeping into New Zealand's game as Keven Mealamu is penalised for an illegal throw at the line-out. The hooker shakes his head. That gives Dylan Hartley the chance to throw in and England's jumping is impeccable this afternoon.

Matt Dawson , Former England scrum-half and BBC Radio 5 live expert

"There has to be the connection with the forwards and backs. If England are to win the game, Owen Farrell needs to get the backs moving in straighter lines."

Listen to full commentary on BBC Radio 5 live

40 mins:
PENALTY - Halfpenny- Wales 23-3 Argentina

Yes, Wales can extend their lead before the break. The Welsh win another penalty close to the right touchline and Leigh Halfpenny, with the last kick of the half, arrows his effort straight through the posts.

33 min:
PENALTY - Farrell- England 13-20 New Zealand

A flawless afternoon of kicking from Owen Farrell so far as he keeps his side on New Zealand's coat tails.

33 min:
SIN BIN - Read- England 10-20 New Zealand

Craig Joubert sees Kieran Read coming in from the side and the referee shows the All Black number eight a yellow card and awards England a penalty from a kickable position.

39 mins:
Wales 20-3 Argentina

Despite the scoreline suggesting otherwise, Wales have spent a large amount of time on the back foot. But they have another opportunity to inflict further misery on the Argentines with a line-out inside the 22. Toby Faletau emerges with the ball before Scott Williams's quick offload forces an Argentine knock-on. Can Wales score again before the break?

30 min:
PENALTY - Cruden- England 10-20 New Zealand

Chris Robshaw and Billy Twelvetrees were a few steps ahead of Owen Farrell before he kicked ahead and that allows Aaron Cruden to step up for the penalty. The replacement as reliable as Carter, popping it over from 35m or so.

28 min:
England 10-17 New Zealand

The Twickenham faithful buoyed by their side's display in this high-octane encounter. A fine leap from Courtney Lawes at the back of the line-out gives his team a honeyed platform, though the hosts opt to kick downfield which allows New Zealand to attack from deep.

34 mins:
Wales 20-3 Argentina

Former Argentina captain Agustin Pichot on BBC One: "Argentina have played most of the rugby, but they need to be more tactical about it. Wales are slow in the contact area, but Argentina are making mistakes and Wales are capitalising."

25 min:
SUBSTITUTION - Carter off- England 10-17 New Zealand

Dan Carter's day comes to an unexpected end as he is replaced by Aaron Cruden. Carter's father, who has flown in from New Zealand especially for this match, watches his son limp off and that's the last we'll see of the fly-half's golden boots.

Matt Dawson , Former England scrum-half and BBC Radio 5 live expert

"Such confidence for the England side. So much pressure from the New Zealand in the opening salvo, but the England forwards look like they have the edge on the All Blacks."

Listen to full commentary on BBC Radio 5 live

23 min:
TRY - Launchbury- England 10-17 New Zealand

The ball pops out unexpectedly from the back of England's scrum... Kieran Read knocked forward but was Joe Launchbury offside?

No is the answer from the TMO. The referee awards the try this time and Owen Farrell converts.

30 mins:
PENALTY - Sanchez- Wales 20-3 Argentina

Richard Hibbard looks slightly bemused after the Wales hooker is deemed to have conceded a penalty just outside his own 22. Argentina elect to kick towards goal and fly-half Nicolas Sanchez makes no mistake as he almost nonchalantly strokes over for the visitors' first points of the afternoon.

GET INVOLVED #bbcrugby

Molly Lauren Grey : YES YES YES!!!!!! #Wales

Andy Carrol : North's supporting run made that try for Phillips

Kurt Baird : This could be a rugby score against Argentina. Oh wait...

Jonathan Davies , Former Wales fly-half and BBC Sport expert Wales 20-0 Argentina

"That's a very well-worked try. George North just steams up the middle. Mike Phillips takes his man wide, then North steps through."

22 min:
TRY REVIEW- England 3-17 New Zealand

The England forwards form a huddle from the line-out... they soften up their All Black counterparts... over the try-line they go... Lee Dickson leaps in joy... the referee asks the touch judge for his opinion, then brings in the TMO.

The Twickenham crowd hiss, which is all you need to know really. No camera showed Billy Vunipola had grounded the ball so Craig Joubert doesn't award the try.

20 min:
England 3-17 New Zealand

A sturdy England line-out... the forwards inch forward... scrum to the hosts... another penalty but Owen Farrell attempts to weave his way through the black-shirted defence. A short, sharp shrill of the referee's whistle as the players are called back... New Zealand failing to roll away... England again refuse to kick at the posts and instead opt for another line-out.

24 mins:
TRY - North, con Halfpenny- Wales 20-0 Argentina

And it gets even better for Wales as George North powers through! That one is straight from the training ground as Mike Phillips picks up a Welsh line-out to slip a reverse pass inside to the hulking centre North. And nothing, simply nothing, is stopping him as he rampages in to score beside the posts. Easy conversion for Leigh Halfpenny and everything is rosy inside a noisy Millennium Stadium.

23 mins:
Wales 13-0 Argentina

Wales flanker Justin Tipuric races back on to the muddy Millennium Stadium field to level up the numbers. Not only did Wales escape any further punishment during his enforced 10-minute absence, they even managed to extend their lead by three points in that time.

GET INVOLVED #bbcrugby

Max Boyle : England's defence is all over the place. Narrow, over-committing. Brainless.

saidmadrid : Kieran Read showing why he is the man of the season. Killer instinct in the All Blacks' eyes.

Stuart Smith : Not looking good seeing as we are half yard behind every play and tackle too easy for the Kiwis.

18 min:
England 3-17 New Zealand

The hosts work their way upfield and embark on a maul about 5m from the New Zealand try line. The Twickenham faithful are in full voice... Craig Joubert indicates Stuart Lancaster's men have won a penalty and Owen Farrell opts for touch. Hold on to your hats.

Matt Dawson , Former England scrum-half and BBC Radio 5 live expert

"If you are going to get in the New Zealand face, you have to go up together. The attention was on Kieran Read, they pick the weak defender and the line was excellent."

Former Wales winger Shane Williams: Great start by Wales. Keep ball, play phases with tempo and win game!! Easier said than done. Argentina are a tough team!!

18 mins:
PENALTY - Halfpenny- Wales 13-0 Argentina

Leigh Halfpenny puffs his chest out as he sizes up a penalty from just inside the Argentine half. He boots it goalwards and turns back to his position. He knows where that is going - and that is straight over through the middle of the Argentine posts. Textbook.

16 min:
TRY - Read, con Carter- England 3-17 New Zealand

Owen Franks bulldozes his way through the middle of the pitch... Aaron Smith and Israel Dagg spin it wide for Kieran Read to stride over for his 15th international try. Simple but brutal. Dan Carter bi

Much of our research effort in recent weeks continues to be focused on developing a deeper understanding of this divergence. The historical evidence clearly indicates that such divergences are settled in favor of the leading indicators (see last week's economic discussion in Warning: A brand new Who's Who of Awful Times to take a position ), but since our views are extremely out of sync with the broad consensus, the issue demands as much additional investigation and research as we can amass. It bears repeating we neither desire a recession, nor have any interest in "pounding the table" about it. We would rather have the data convincingly shift to a condition that eases our recession concerns.
